What is this website? This website shows the current air quality in an area of the south of Almaty, Kazakhstan (south of Al-Farabi Avenue, southern part of the Bostandyk District). Values and health recommendations are updated every three minutes. I built the air quality sensor and this website because I needed an easy, reliable way to check the air quality around the place I live and work. It is unlikely that it’s relevant to you unless you also live and/or work in the same area.
More precisely: this website shows you the recent concentration of Particulate Matter smaller than 2.5 µg (2.5 microns, or micrometres) in diameter, per cubic metre, as measured by my own air quality sensor. As far as air quality in Almaty is concerned, PM2.5 is the biggest concern, followed by PM10, especially in the winter months. The two numbers you see are PM 2.5 µg/m³, and this concentration converted using the American Air Quality Index. For example, when you see this: ![]() According to the United States CDC (Centre for Disease Control) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), an AQI of 169 means the air quality is unhealthy for the general population. | |||||
